Market: Rain or Shine

My Manakin Market has been such a wonderful experience for AAVA. We have enjoyed meeting so many very nice people. Some of whom are “regulars” to the market are fast becoming friends. Last Saturday, we brought four new animals to the market.Willow and Johnny Fleece joined their friends Annaliese and Duchess in the ride from barn to market.  These are two pairs of dam and cria (mother child). The cria had never been out in public before! Johnny Fleece and Duchess soothed their nerves by staying close to their mommas. All four of them did well!

Like most of us, the market manager anticipated the possibility of rain, last Saturday. The forecast was “iffy”. Approximately, a dozen of us vendors showed up, anyway. The manager executer her contingency plan: Market on the asphalt. It worked out very well. Hard rain stayed away. Some moments of mist occurred. Shoppers came to the market to get their produce, organic meats, baked goods, handmade goods, alpaca goods, and visit the alpacas. All considering, it was a beautiful day!

We received a shipment from the Alpaca Fiber Cooperative. We have more and new goods made with luxurious and desirable alpaca fleece: socks, gloves, mittens, scarves (new!), hats (some new!), weed-blocking garden cloth (new!), trivets, and a beautiful laundry basket. We also have fiber for felting artists, as well as table runners for Halloween, Fall, and Christmas!  More unique items coming soon!

This weekend, Oct 1st & 2nd, Andersons Alpacas will be at the State Fair with Virginia Alpaca Days Exhibition. Alpaca farmers from the area will be on the north side of Route 30 under and next to a big red and white tent celebrating and sharing about Alpacas of Virginia. Hope to see you there!

Here are some of our favorite pictures from the Market from the past week. Enjoy!
